This unique residence for a single family in the dense residential fabric of Gurgaon is like a breath of fresh of fresh air that beautifully stands out from the neighbouring homes with its clean lines of contemporary expression and a refined understated elegance.

On a three side open corner plot the clients envisioned their dream home to have ample garden space for themselves and their seven dogs. They imagined a variety of outdoor spaces, some that could stay cool enough in the summers and others that give them an opportunity to bask in the winter sun.

We do not believe that slapping homes with expensive Italian marble and using the exorbitantly priced furniture/lights is a sign of luxury. For us, the real sign of high living is to be able to afford light, air and open spaces; achieving exactly that with a carefully curated ebb and flow between spaces was one of the key principles in designing this house.

Carving out central courtyards, light wells and sunken courts into the basement allows for passive cooling, daylight penetration whilst opening out positive views to look into. The playful modular massing helps generate stepped terraces and cantilevered balconies. Adding lawns, terrace gardens and cascading green walls in the building creates and an interesting harmony between architecture and nature. The internal spaces are tailor made spaces suiting the needs all family members so they can enjoy their private spaces, the family spaces, and spaces to entertain small/ large groups of guests.

A traditional column beam structure is usually bulky and eats away more internal space while offering lesser flexibility for internal layouts and scope of additions to the structure in the future.

A composite structural system using construction materials in their natural finish was opted for that saves external/internal cladding work whilst also giving the building its tastefully juxtaposed architectural expression. The vertical core, shear walls and the base of the building up till the podium are in cast in-situ exposed concrete upon which sits a slender and lightweight mass timber lattice grid structure, made rigid with cross bracing in selective locations.

The façade infill panels are made of insulated polycarbonate and glass for privacy and views to the exterior respectively while both allow the interiors to be abundantly lit.
